Like ShawnYouWillHate said, I was a little disappointed by the music of 2010. I feel like so much has changed since I got into the scene back in 2008, like everything I love is slipping away… I just miss the way things were in 2008, when it was all about neon, dancey electro beats, and most of all MySpace.
The great thing about MySpace is that it made it look like these bands were huge when they definitely weren’t. They might have 400 zillion MySpace friends, super-polished promo shots, and album after album of slutty girls who made them fansigns, but when I went to see them they’d play at the same tiny, shitty venues that I saw hardcore bands in 10-15 years earlier, and would only draw 50-150 kids, but from looking at their MySpace, you’d think they were all in Bon Jovi. It felt like more than just another flash in the pan, it felt like a MOVEMENT.
Miss u, scene hair. Do they even sell clip-in coon tails at Hot Topic anymore??
Now it’s all about Rise Records-style metalcore/trancecore/dubstepcore. Not really feeling that. I mean, I like it as much as the next guy, especially the better stuff like the latest Attack Attack LP, but it definitely doesn’t get me going like the autotuned powerpop of 2008 did. Like I mentioned earlier, easycore is fizzling too, which was the only other thing that kept me going. I’m really bummed. What’s next, guys?? Will I ever like music again???????

i am so sad. it seemed like scene was just starting to catch on when i was home in cleveland for xmas. i had to explain it to my 33 yr old married brother who lives on a culdesac in the burbs while at south park mall.
"it's called scene."
"what kind of scene?"
"it's just 'scene'"
"scene scene? hahaha. i like the girls' hair."
Rest in Peace, scene. I will always remember my Cash Cash themed 30th birthday party…
That PlayRadioPlay song is pretty good.
Will Deuce ever do more than make butthurt tweets about HU??
No.
Do they even sell clip-in coon tails at Hot Topic anymore??
No.
Will Trace Cyrus ever do anything notable again?
He'll be starring in a Syfy reality series with his dad Billy Ray Cyrus called UFO: Unbelievably Freakin' Obvious.
in other words, No.
My heart breaks over all this. That Cash Cash picture alone feels like it's from '98. What happened to our scene? This semester I wrote a 40 page paper on black metal. I'm becoming the worst scene kid ever :/ At least VS Pink and skinny jeans are still relevant…
If you`re really a black metal fan now, kudos :) I went from scene to metal too haha
scene are dead? … fuck yeah :'D
In all seriousness, I had pondered this for a while. I just graduated high school last year, and noticed that I may only see a handful of scene college kids on any given day. Is that because all the scenesters grew up after high school, or because scene is dead? Emo dominated my early high school years, and scene dominated my late high school years. I had several friends who evolved from emo to scene, and now, they rarely show a trace of their former selves as they live in late 2010. The only scentesters who currently hold on to being scene are the ones who have made it their own clique, not a 'fad.'
raises the question: can one be scene til death?
I'm reminded of the 'death of hardcore' angsting in the mid-80s and the 'death of grunge' pieces in the mid-90s.
Is it too early for a nostalgia-fueled scene revival? If hair metal can do it… Party like it's 2008!
At this point there have been more necrophilic scene/movement/subculture/genre revivals than scenes themselves. Remember, we're on the 9th coming of glam, the 5th generation of emo, the 7th wave of goth, the 4rd incarnation of New Wave. (Note: I made those numbers up.) Don't get me started on rockabilly. Everything comes back, just in a more unintentionally parodic, formulaic, and somewhat less inspiring form.
Party like it's 2008!
Word. \m/
God damn it. I was just finally mastering being hyphy, now I read this and learn that I'm FIVE YEARS BEHIND!!! Shit.
Come to think of it, three years ago, when I was 24 and the whole thing had come to a head with bands that I can't name and didn't like, I was madly interested in the disgusting, neon-plastered imagery.
This article was refreshing, in that I know now that I didn't miss out on a single thing by being between the ages of 15-18 that year.
I'll stick with my plaid-ed, cardigan-ed, skinney jeans-ed, beanie toque-ed shameless hipsterism, because, frankly, it's totally superior.
Totally.
Thank FUCK scene is over. Scene is dead, oh thank the lord.
if scene is dead whats the next thing
Wish I knew brah :( feelsbadman

Scene is SO totally NOT dead! For it to die it would have to have existed at some point. To say Scene is dead is to imply that it was some kind of youth movement with some kind of context, relevalance, ideology, or SOMETHING!… It’s like saying “Cargo shorts is dead” or “Bleached hair is dead”.
Scene can never die and will never die. It never arrived.
Sorry to ruin the party. I hate fun.
lol u mad
