What do you think of the new Suicide Silence?

So recently I’ve been listening to the new Suicide Silence tracks. At first I didn’t really care so much about hearing their new material, but then retards on the internet started comparing it to “Nu-metal”. I even heard people saying they sound like Slipknot now. Of course, after hearing that I had to give this shit a listen. Anywho, below are the 3 tracks and what I though of them, starting with Human Violence.

okay, so aside from the gay interlude in the middle, this song is decent. It has no lows, no breakdowns, and it sounds like grindcore or punk at times. The riff at the end is cool, but that’s about it.

Whenver I first heard this I was actually relieved because it had some breakdowns. It’s sounds closer to the old SS we all know and love, but WAIT! There still aren’t enough lows. :_(  Oh well, despite that, this song is pretty fucking sick.

Ok, this song has areally gay intro. I don’t really care for this one so much. Yeah, I know it has some breakdowns, a stolen Impending Doom riff, and a few seconds of lows(if that even qualifies), but it just doesn’t do it for me. Overall, I’d say it’s my least favorite of the three.

RIP "Br00t4l" Suicide Silence :_(

Well guys, I’m a little dissapointed now. I don’t know what happened, but Suicide Silence doesn’t sound quite the same anymore. It seems they’ve still kept some aspect of their old sound and just dropped the brutality. I’ll still give their new album a fair chance, but I’m pretty sure I won’t like it as much as the old brutal shit. It’ll still be good though. Also, I wouldn’t ever classify this new stuff as “nu-metal”. It simply isn’t. Although they can sound like nu-metal at times, SS has a long way to go before they become this…

This was my music of choice in middle school. If only deathcore had been around then to save me from this faggotry. Oh well, I do lol @ people still listening to them today.

Enough about Slipknot though, what do you all think of “The Black Crown” so far? Do you like it more than the old SS? or less? Or do you hate SS all-together because it’s not tr00?

    1. That picture of Suiside Silence creeps me out because I look almost EXACTLY like Mitch Lucker when he had short hair (although my arms aren’t that skinny, thank god). And I don’t have neck tattoos (again, thank god).

    2. I hadn’t heard any of this new stuff until now. I heard everybody say it sounded like nu metal, but I kind of blew it off because people say all kinds of stupid shit about Suicide Silence. Well, they/you are right, holy Slipknot! I like Slipknot and a lot of other nu metal, so it’s not really a bad thing IMO, but I do like their old, br00tal stuff better.

    3. Makes sense from a marketing perspective that they’re trying to be a little more accessible. Hopefully this record will be their biggest yet, I’d be stoked to see these guys get some mainstream radio play/press!

    • DarthZedd says:

Yeah, honeslty they’re still good. They still have some good breakdowns and catchy riffs, and that’s enough to keep me listening. I’m just glad they didn’t go JFAC on us. That would’ve been way worse.

      • tim bastard says:

didnt jfac go further and further away from being little kids in a deathcore band to being in a deathmetal band?

        • DarthZedd says:

Yep, listen to Doom Ep(1st release) then Gloom EP(latest release).

          • Andrew says:

Dude… That was the best transition ever! Granted Job for a Cowboy was one of the few deathcore sounding bands I liked, but their transition is just way better than Doom. Gloom kicks ass!

            • Jon says:

Runination is one badass album (it’s the second one). There’s some deathcore traits but it’s straight up death metal mainly, and the self-titled track is just brilliant.

Millions of bummed 18 year olds.

  3. Watt Par says:

    I’m super, super into this.

The lyrics to “You Only Live Once” are so bad that it is almost song ruining.

    • DarthZedd says:

Yeah, SS has never been about deep lyrics. I am going to miss shit like, “pull the trigger bitch!” though.

      • slamson says:

        yea! and stuff like

        “where is your god?
        where is your god?
        where is your fucking god?”

now its like “you live once so do good stuff”

        very disappointing :(

You wish you had deathcore to save you from nu-metal? o_0

Suicide Silence are going nu-metal, winds of plague went pretty nu-metal on last album, fucking Morbid Angel and The Haunted have gone nu-metal. Is this similar to how in the early to mid 00′s it was cool to be hair-metal band again??

    • Sergeant D says:

WoP didn’t go nu-metal, they went 90s wigger hardcore ala Madball. big difference.

    • DarthZedd says:

lol way to not know what nu-metal sounds like. Go listen to some early Coal Chamber or KoRn. Better yet, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory”. I don’t listen to Morbid Angel or The Haunted(never heard of em), so I can’t make a call on that. However, Suicide Silence and Winds of Plague aren’t nu metal. Neither are they turning nu-metal. At the most, they’re simply taking a few elements from nu-metal and using it in their own sound(which is still metalcore). It doesn’t automatically change their genre. This is what I was trying to say in my article.

      • jm6g90 says:

” Go listen to some early Coal Chamber or KoRn. Better yet, Linkin Park, “Hybrid Theory”.”

I was born in 1990. Some of my first albums were limp bizkit and LP Apology accepted.

And I know they arent totally nu-metal, was just musing why that sound is re-entering the semi-mainstream again after being banished and reviled for so long.

    • tim bastard says:

dudes from ss grew up on slipknot and korn they love that shit. If i made a band it would end up like a fucking punk band from the 80s. Look at throwdown, bands change

  5. XIAMDOOMX says:

I have an old issue of Skratch magazine with an ad for shows at chain reaction that lists them as xSuicide Silencex…maybe they lost the br00tality when they dropped the x’s? ;)

  6. uppercut613 says:

suicide silence kinda laid the blueprint for ‘generic deathcore’ with their circa 2005-2006 material, then they just got progressively worse while other bands showed up executing the style way better (see: whitechapel’s first album or thy art is murder’s ‘infinite death’ ep).

basically, i respect them for being one step ahead of the game, but they were never THAT good and theyre really bad now… in my opinion.

    • Sergeant D says:

respectable opinion- i personally like their first 2 records better than whitechapel’s first, but i agree with your point in general

      • uppercut613 says:

thats fair – slightly offtopic still on point – do you feel like deathcore is dying? i used to listen to almost nothing but deathcore in 2007-2008, then less in 2009-2010, now i really dont listen to any at all.

it might be my own bias cause i got bored of the style i guess, but i just feel like theres not as many good up and coming bands as there were, and the more established bands have gotten meh.

i guess this is material for a whole new post lol. but damn, if what im saying has any bit of truth behind it (as i said, it might be bias), then genres sure burn out quickly these days :(

        • Sergeant D says:

i do have a post coming up about this– i dont think its dying, but it is changing. deathcore 1.0 was ATG-core like Black Dahlia Murder, Unearth, etc. deathcore 2.0 is Cannibal Corpse with breakdowns (Suicide Silence, Carnifex, etc). deathcore 3.0 is djent with breakdowns- I think we are in phase 2.5, as evidenced by the latest stuff from The Acacia Strain, Whitechapel, After The Burial, etc that is obviously inspired by Meshuggah.

          Just my two cents!

          • uppercut613 says:

eh, i dont get this whole djent craze. theres been djent-core bands just as long as theres been 2.0 deathcore bands. its just starting to catch on with the metal kids recently i guess. oh, and i consider deathcore 1.0 to just be ‘metalcore’. i also remember people calling it ‘swedecore’ or ‘gothencore’ hahaha.

          • Andrew says:

I hope deathcore dies a miserable death.

  7. bread says:

i agree that there aren’t enough lows in those tracks, but other than that, from what i hear this album will still be similar to NTTB.

i enjoyed NTTB more than their first album so I guess that’s a good thing. i’m lookin forward to this release.

  8. Nickynegative says:

The first song sounds more like converge or late 00′s hydra head type shit.

    • xtrinidadx says:

good call. It sounds like a hybrid of Converge and Disembodied or something. Great track.

      • Nickynegative says:

Yea none of this stuff is really anything new, circle of dead children sounded like did death core 10 years ago. the fact that it became this big trend shows how out of new musical ideas we are.

Maybe ska will come back ( shudders )

  9. Jamie says:

I push some earplugs into my ears

It’s the only thing that slowly stops the ache

  10. jondabudz says:

They sound almost exactly like slipknot on Iowa now. Their still pretty good though, I can get into their newer shit more than I can Whitechapels. Whitechapel lost me with This is Exile when they stopped ripping off old Suicide Silence. The SS demo is still sludgy as shit.

    • xLICEx says:

The Somatic Defilement came out before The Cleansing I think, the similarities between the two bands pretty much end at them both being deathcore. Besides Whitechapel sounds way more like The Black Dahlia Murder with Acacia Strain beatdowns, Devourment grooves and Deftones atmosphere than they sound like SS

    • xLICEx says:

Oh, props for the SS demo love tho

  11. xLICEx says:

The mix of deathcore and nu/groove on Fuck Everything is retardedly awesome, blatant crowd participation song (srs, who says “stick your fingers” up in the STUDIO version of their song except a rapper???) but still pgood. Those other two songs are meh though, Human Violence sounds like a not-as-good rehash of Smoke off their last album (same grind thing) and You Only Live Once is eerily reminiscent of Diamonds Aren’t Forever by BMTH imo, plus it’s WEIRD hearing such posi lyrics from the same band whose claim to fame is penning the phrase “PULL THE TRIGGER, BITCH”. But I’m still pretty much stoked for the album if for nothing else but the Jonathan Davis and Frank Mullen guest spots and a few beatdowns that snap.
