I never really understood the appeal of I Set My Friends On Fire. The time Sarge and I saw them live it was these two OTW’s playing non-sensical riff salade´, and some metal dork on drums. Naturally, kids were freaking out but we were holed up at the back bar with the disinterested parents that chauffeured their tweens to the show. The few recorded songs I had previously heard from them were disjointed and not very catchy, and their new album is not very different save for the opening track. The video for “It Comes Naturally” is pretty cool because it does not feature any crabbing, grassy fields, haircuts, or any of the usual scene accoutrements. The song is growing on me and the production has improved, but I don’t really want to like these guys.
What do you guys think? Am I too old to understand bands like this?

I actually think these guys have legitimately clever, hilarious lyrics (“cumming is one of my favorite things to do” = brilliant), but their music is unfortunately a little underwhelming. Weren’t they one of the first to have a really popular post-ironic screamo cover when they did that Soulja Boy song back in like 07?
They seem like cool guys and are probably super fun to hang out with, I just wish the music was more than just generic metalcore.
basically, I wish that they were EATMEWHILEIMHOT, who in my opinion have really funny, clever lyrics *and* play awesome moshcore
“I actually think these guys have legitimately clever, hilarious lyrics”
Ummm srsly??
yes, but I am a retarded person who thinks stuff like “rip then dip” and “cumming is one of my favorite things to do” is the pinnacle of humor
they’re kinda like a muppet baby version of the Blood Brothers
We played with them once a loooooong time ago, when they were just that band trying not to be known for a Soulja Boy cover. And they played it live, and I’ve never seen anyone look less enthusiastic or upset at themselves on stage.
Miss May I are really funny when they begrudgingly play their Soulja Boy cover, which always gets a bigger response than any of their original songs.
I didn’t know they had one too. One of the worst live bands I’ve ever seen, which would make all their songs funny to watch in some sense.
Haha i hated that calvary kids bullshit. With the cheap ass breakdown at the end.
Folly was alright. Great shirt, though.
I’ve never heard this band other than that stupid collab video they did with Smosh, and I’m not listening to them again.
I think they were one of the first bands doing this kind of stuff, but seems like they just missed the boat.
sex ed rocks !

Sergeant D,
The Miss May I cover was actually of the ing Swing by Savage. I had a totally cool dude to roommate who thought metalcore rap covers were God’s gift to meathead weightlifters.

disregard the last post. autocorrect hell.
i stand corrected, although i do think a metalcore rap cover band would be a very marketable idea!
