Our bro Luke at Put That Shit On The List put up a solid post today in which he asked a few douchebag hipsters about their favorite topic: themselves! More specifically, they discussed the notion of friendship with people who aren’t “in the scene,” with predictably enraging results.
My favorite quote is “In fact, it’s usually easier to talk with non-artists because they are willing to let you talk about what you’re up to creatively without edging in.” Translation: “I like being around normal people because unlike self-absorbed hipsters such as me, they are too polite to tell me to STFU when I talk about myself and my excessively strong, unsolicited opinions.”
Trigger warning: artsy bullshit, fggts, long-winded self-centered rants

This is great.
They are all basically saying, “if you are not into what I like, then I don’t have interest in you.”
TRANSLATION: “If you don’t have similar interests as me, then I can’t talk about myself. Which sucks, because I actually just like to hear my voice.”
Immediate RAGEquit. Phenomenal post.
Yeah but we get the last laugh -

Thanks for the link. We could totally talk to each other about blogs for hours if we ever met IRL I bet.
I don’t mind talking to these people; they never seem to want to talk to me for a long time anyhow.
I am a trained digital artist. I’m fledgling, but I like what I do. I hate calling myself an artist, because I don’t want to get lumped in with the rest of the people who make this stereotype true. Shit, the only money I’ve ever made from my education is from freelance tattoo design. Maybe I’m easier to deal with because I’m an immediate sellout – I work for money, not because I’m devoted to an obscure/relevant cause and “my art is my voice on the matter.”
TL;DR – artists can be insufferable douchebags sometimes.
True business you last two guys. But everyone can be insufferable sometimes. I guess in the end it’s just all about what you have the stomach for and whether or not you can sleep at night.
I’m in a good position to outinsufferable and outdouchebag artsy people, though. Being an old dude and always playing in 3-4 bands, I’ve accidentally played some music they’re required to respect when I had nothing better to do.
