THE DEFINITE “EMO POP” RECORD

As you might be aware, I’m a super emo elitist retard. So it comes as a surprise to some people that not only do I not condemn “emo pop”, I actually love it! And I am here to tell you about the very best “emo pop” there ever was/will be.

The Juliana Theory – Knobheads in dark clothing in a forest make the best “emo pop”!

You know that band that probably everyone on SYWH loves and everyone else hates (that is sort of the point of SYWH…)? That’s right, I’m talking about The Juliana Theory. Guess what – they actually have one record that is absolutely mind blowing. It’s that good! And they share that record with a band called Dawson High. One of these bands  faded to obscurity, one ended up wallowing in shit. Guess which is which!

Dawson High – dorks leaning on bricks too!

Anyway, said record is amazing. It’s completely amazing in every which way. It is seriously amazing. The best split in this style by far. The best fucking record in this style, hands down! The lyrics are amazing and super melancholic and bitter, but the vocal delivery is what really kills it. It pains me to listen to it. And those guitars!!! Holy shit. I cannot stress this enough: If you like emo-tinged (AKA whiny) pop/alternative/rock (The Get Up Kids, Taking Back Sunday, gods reflex, etc.), this is the mammoth and the unpolished diamond of the sound. This is the blueprint for cry-about-girls-core, and the epitome of adolescent and early adulthood angst (AKA first world problems). This is straight up embarrassingly pathetic. It’s perfect.

Best track on each side, if I had to choose:

Side ‘A’, track 3
WHEN I LOOK UP
You’re the brightest star…
In a pocket full of skies…
My colored picture in a world of black and white…
My only dream come true!
In a restless winter night…
My only dream come true!

Side ‘B’, track 4
When I saw you on Monday you told me you loved me
And everything was gonna be okay
Then you call and say
“I really don’t love you, I wanna live without you
And I’m sorry that things had to turn out this way”
I’m sorry that things turned out this way
I guess I’m too nice of a boy to make a girl like you stay

… Do you see where this is going??? Download it here: http://bit.ly/orm0wL (don’t worry the free version of Rapidshare isn’t awful any more)!

Tell me what you think of it in the comments section after you’ve given it a spin and put it on repeat for the rest of your life!!! Talk about “emo pop”!!! Do you still like it? Did you ever? Share your philosophical musings on “emo pop” with me.

Does Copeland count. My gf is always listening to them in the car and that dude has a pretty angelic voice, that sounds pretty ghey now that I think about it.

  2. chadski says:

i always thought Juliana Theory were basically a second rate Jimmy Eat World.

  3. Alexander says:

no, man. but they both only have one good release. and this is Juliana Theory’s.

  4. Slammy Hagar says:

  5. Alexander says:

thanks for notifying me! silly WordPress decided to add an extra “http://” to the link, so I had to edit the HTML. enjoy!

  6. Sergeant D says:

This band is pretty crappy. My ex is from the same town as the singer– they were supposed to go to prom together but she stood him up.

  7. that split and Understand This Is a Dream are the only good Juliana Theory releases imo.
