NEW FOUND GLORY has a new album and it’s sweet!

As a general rule, good bands start to suck shit after a couple albums, but since musicians have huge egos they think they are still good and keep putting out terrible, embarrassing music that tarnishes the name of their once-awesome band (eg, the new Blink-182 record) until finally the universally negative feedback gets through to them and they begrudgingly go on “indefinite hiatus.” Since they are one of my favorite bands of all time, I am happy to report that NEW FOUND GLORY is one of the few exceptions to this rule, and that their new album is awesome!

These are some awesome lyrics, clearly written by someone who’s been burned by falling for some crazy girls: “When you need a boy around you just for the summer / don’t come knocking on my door.”

The tough part about being an aging pop-punk band is staying true to your roots without embarrassing yourself by pretending like you’re still 17. I mean, you can’t really be 32 and still writing songs about skipping school, getting dumped by your prom date, and how your stepdad is an effing a-hole. On the other hand, if you take the Blink route and start playing alternative rock songs with gay lyrics about pyramids and space or whatever, that sucks too because it has nothing to do with why anybody liked your band in the first place and everybody just shakes their head like “Dudes why are you doing this?!”

On the other hand, this is the same NFG you know and love: it’s still awesome, catchy pop-punk about girls, only now they write from the perspective of dudes our age. So instead of a song about how they are hopelessly in love with the girl who works at Pac Sun even though she treats them like shit and is a scandalous ho, they write about the same bish, only this time the song is about how they’re not going to fall for her dramatic bullshit like they would have 10 years ago. High school bros will still be into it, but oldfags will also be able to relate. SAME OLD NFG, GREAT NEW TASTE!

Wat u think, brahs?? Is the NFG the only 90s pop punk band that is still awesome? What is the secret to staying good for so long?? Will that girl from Pac Sun ever like me back?????

Best NFG cd ever. No fillers on this one unlike their other cds which have been hit and miss(pardon the pun lol). Fav song right now is Drill it in my brain. Puts on a big smile every time I hear it

Mirin’ Dime Store Novelist’s sick marketing skillz. Bring ‘em here with New Found Glory, Keep ‘em here with the ghey harmonica tunes at the end!

  3. JS says:

    amazing artwork

  4. Andy says:

I have loved these guys since I was 11. If you don’t enjoy this band, you don’t have a soul.

    co-sign this post 100%.

    this album is fucking awesome

  6. neonjesus says:

Album is amazing. Very impressed with it. They are the only pop-punk band that has really evolved without sacrificing what made them great in the first place.

  7. Scrilla Tree says:

I was surprised at how good Not Without A Fight was. Will have to give this one a listen.

  11. Fred Durst says:

Do high school kids even listen to pop punk anymore?

    • Fred Durst says:

As far as the music goes, I’m not big into pop punk, but this is actually pretty good.

    • Wintermute says:

I’m sure they do, you just can’t admit you actually like it until you are much older.

      • Fred Durst says:

I thought it was the other way around… That teens were supposed to listen to pop punk with no shame, but start hiding it when they turn 20 and become “2 matur 4 dat childish stuf” and pretend to listen to Radiohead.

  12. BSMitchell says:

@Fred Durst Yes, but most of the kids I know who are into pop-punk prefer the kind that occasionally tries to be hardcore. Four Year Strong and A Day to Remember are huge at my school. Wonder Years is pretty big around here too even though they don’t fit the definition I just gave.

I stopped reading after you said you liked NFG. Facepalmed the entire article.
    Deal with it.

    new album rules
I prefer tip of the iceberg and not without a fight via easycore but this album is defenetly better than catalyst and coming home

  15. Wintermute says:

I’m listening to Radiosurgery and time-travel-high-fiving my year 2000 self who is listening to Hit or Miss.

  16. Cédric says:

To me it lacks a bit of energy. Catalyst was their last great album, the next albums are enjoyable, but nothing special.
