Bands You May Have Slept On: MERAUDER

As I’ve said before, I’m totally cool with little kids jocking older hardcore bands, all I ask is that they at least jock the good ones. For example, it really bums me out to see younger kids swinging from the balls of bands like Bold or SSD, because they are kind of shitty yet get way too much attention thanks to bands like Have Heart hyping them.

My favorite Merauder track– at :30 when the vocals come in = I’m losing my mind with desire to murder someone, and at 2:12 DAT BREAKDOWN!!!!

The legendary video for “Master Killer”- note Jorge’s muay thai tattoo! Also, Century Media needs to get some credit for all the sick hardcore records they’ve put out, including this one. This was back in the 90s, when most hardcore records sounded like they were recorded in a trash can, so big ups to CM for putting up the cash to give Merauder the production budget they deserved and making this record so untouchable.

I definitely feel like MERAUDER needs to get more love, because they are hands down one of the hardest bands of all time and IMO their 1996 album “Master Killer” is in the top 5 most face-smashingly brutal hardcore records ever released. And I’ll leave the gossip, rumors and third-hand stories about these guys for the B9 threads but these guys are a first generation DMS band, so that should tell you all you need to know as far as how legit they are.

Although I personally don’t, a lot of people prefer the 93 demo with Minus from Dmize on vocals so I thought I’d post it. It still goes hard as fuck, I just like Jorge’s vocals best.

They have a couple other albums too, which are all solid- their latest is actually fucking good, especially this song. Pretty fucking impressive that these guys have been around since 1991 or whatever and still play with more intensity than 99% of bands who are literally half their age– they look like they’d rather be kicking the shit out of someone.

Another classic track off of Master Killer: IT’S! THE DOWNFALL OF CHRIST! I honestly love every song on this album, which is very very rare for a hardcore record.

Did you make it through this post without moshing around your room??? Did you punch your mom in the face and yell “I AM THE MASTER KILLER, BOW TO ME”???? Why don’t kids jock this band at all??

I always liked Merauder way more than Madball as far bands starting in M that rep DMS, I think they don’t get as much love because their name is kind of goofy.

Mirin that Pit Bulls hat! Texas stomp!

  2. RJG says:

This is why I back SYWH 100%. Merauder is UNFUCKWITHABLE, especially Master Killer. Along with 100 Demons, Hatebreed, CAL, AOW, Madball, Terror and Subzero this is mosh destruction in it’s purest form, undiluted and from legit scumbags. Basically the only kind of hardcore that matters. BRB, deading a 5 rep set of 385 to LIFE IS PAIN.

  3. m00k says:

    Ignorant mosh jams 4 life

  4. yowhatupdo says:

if you like Merauder check out Ragmen, a side project Jorge did with some dudes from Madball and Terror.

  5. outofcardio says:

THE MIRROR SHOWS BLACK!!!!I SEEEE YOUR PAAAAAAIN!

  6. Scrilla Tree says:

Love Master Killer. Couldn’t get into Five Deadly Venoms. Bluetality has a handful of jams. Haven’t heard the newer album.

  7. refusetodie says:

  10. Walker says:

Im glad I finally got around to watching the Master Killer video, that song went hard as fuck. The solo was 90s as fuck as well. Sick!!

  11. Thank you for awaring me Sarge!
    I can now die peacefully

  12. oldfag from Italy says:

Yo D! speaking of hc bands on C.M.: curious to know your opinion on Turmoil

  13. DanIstheBastard says:

Master Killer is one of my all-time favorite albums from high school.

Now that I’m a growed up who wears suits and works in an office the album is on my regular rotation of office mosh.

Good jerb on this article, yo.

  14. Lucifersmile says:

    Fuck yeah, Merauder!

  15. freftd says:

i love that in the background of master killer theres just people showing off their mediocre nunchuck skills. ignoranceeeeee <3

  16. HERMAN says:

    shit goes hard as fuck!

i think kids jock bold and SSD cause they look like the “good” kind of hardcore, whereas merauder look like the kind of guys who’d shank you in a prison yard.

    • Nightshift says:

Yeah, clean cut whiteboy hardcore bands were never cool to me. Give me greasy Nuyoricans playing dumbed down Carnivore songs or dirtbag rednecks playing sped up Antiseen covers. I think the scumbag appeal is the reason I transitioned to metal so easily.

  17. inmyheadache says:

Merauder played the first show I ever went to (w/ Tripface, Earth Crisis, & Fastbreak). Supremely hard band.

    SOB R.I.P.

    • DanIstheBastard says:

Was this in CT? I saw Merauder and Earth Crisis (Destroy the Machines era) at the Sports Complex in New Britain.

      • Inmyheadache says:

Nah man, this was in Long Island. I think Gomorrah’s Season Ends had just come out. It was Fall/Winter of 96

        • dza says:

saw a variation of this tour in DET around the same time. the pit was harder than my cock when i see azn women step on small animals whilst wearing heels.

it was my initation to the 90′s phenomenon of predominantly middle-class, white SXE crews beating down unfortunate dudes there for dolo for no reason. but it was awesome!

  18. Hunterrrr says:

Yo is that Yoshimitsu on the cover of that first video there? Are we talking about a long forgotten strain of Tekkencore?

  19. Dr. Unk says:

    it’s a moshterpiece

  20. ge5undhe17 says:

    Merauder fucking rules.

  21. nahrhead says:

Wait, I thought forrest law was the first or am I wrong

  22. Martin Regnen says:

Kids jocking Bold? No problem, just act like you think they’re talking about Bold: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juM2GwHNeMQ

  23. xpedox says:

Sarge i always meant to ask you about this when you repped that one post of NYHC:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GacUyFJw7Y
Why no love for Everybody Gets Hurt?
I really didnt dig EGH myself, until this album dropped out, the older material wasnt as polished as this. If you arent moshing after 2:00 till the end, i dont know what the fuck is wrong with you. Also they were IDS? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkbxmopyAeU&feature=related

And because you love Irate too, you heard this Irate “clone” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU-qurmthYg Their demo and album were heavy as fuck, but how can you not be if you sound like Irate?

  24. dspl says:

that THE DOWNFALL OF CHRIST track is so much better than the cover by heaven shall burn..

even tho its on the ‘best’ release by HSB. that split program stuff is the only thing i’d ever play twice!

  25. dza says:

i love merauder cause they bring the mosh and they look like any other ordinary ignorant hc band, but their lyrics actually go way deeper than the ‘stabbed in the back,’ ‘demand respect or get a beatdown,’ ‘unity in the scene’ tropes

  26. Nightshift says:

Merauder was near the top of my high school playlist, along with Sub-Zero, Killing Time, Fury of Five, Tension*, Breakdown and NJ Bloodline, among others. I was one of a few all American Anglo white kids in a public high school that was mostly black and Vietnamese, so of course I listened to magnificently ignorant metallic NYHC played by vaguely ethnic guido types. This shit was my Rap.

    • VyceVictus says:

That reminds me: In the first video, the Kingsbridge Road station was one stop from my highschool. It was a straight up nerdschool, but we had these ghetto schools right next to us and in the immediate area. Kids used to be mad scared about getting jumped between those two stops, myself included (All the rich whites and aznbros had their own rides and avoided that shit).

Its embarrasing to say, but that was part of the reason why I started lifting (that and we didnt have a football team). But NoFux, because I ws able to achieve Bearmode and make stickup kids think twice about rolling up on me cuz of my massive gainz.

      • Nightshift says:

Fuck yeah bro. I went to a public magnet school for artsy snowflakes in New Orleans a block or two away from this notoriously violent public school that had gang brawls and shootings. Fuck being the 125lb blond fourteen year old. By the time I was a senior those kids were nodding to me on the sidewalk. #feelsgoodman

        • dza says:

haha went to private skool in kenner (kindergarten only). from what i remember of the 70′s and 80′s, most non-cajun whites went to private school; from what my parents said the state made them affordable so whites didnt have to go to the horribly underfunded public schools and *gasp* socialize with blacks…. and anyways my step-dad was paid the too (but soon after we became super PWT like bizarro-world beverly hillbillies…)

  27. nochance says:

wasn’t Pokey, Leeway’s drummer, in this band? Master Killer got many angry head nod listens to me way back when

  28. abraham says:

    damn. i hated this.

  29. bricktop23 says:

    hell yes !
    untouchable!

“top 5 most face-smashingly brutal hardcore records ever released” – post would be cool

  30. moshedbrotatoes says:

Band is awesome. How ’bout that demo with Eddie Leeway on vocals?! Shit is so ridiculous.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWXWqQ_6nmg

  31. Merauder fucking KILLS.

  32. hellawaits77 says:

Merauder rules. Noone can doubt that.
