I like to think of myself as a positive guy, but sometimes I do worry. I find myself lying in bed, eyes wide open, tossing and turning, wondering about the question we’ve all asked ourselves but are too afraid to answer: IS SLAM DEAD? The explosion of crushing slamz that came out in 2006-08 has slowed to a trickle, but never fear- there are still bands like CRANIAL OSTEOTOMY producing utterly generic, interchangeable, and awesome slam metal!
As soon as I saw this song was called “Victim Of Wicked Sickness,” I got a little slam-boner! Nothing says “crushing slamz” like the “Eastern Europeans who only know broken English randomly combining 3-5 menacing-sounding words” school of song titles.
For some reason the “related videos” for slam songs are almost always hilarious like this (see also the Cephalotripsy one with Celine Dion as a “featured video”).

Slam isn’t dead, all the bands that put out albums from ’06 to ’08 have just been layin low and workin on new songs (apparently it takes a lot of work to be more generic than your peers) and workin their day jobs in a futile attempt to get out of mom’s basement/the trailer park/the hood. But I think 2012 is going to start a new era of sick ass slam.

Eastern Europeans have a manic, sincere 3rd World energy about them that they put into everything they do that somehow makes it more exciting, hilarious and frightening than cynical Americans, Western Euros (British Isles, France, N. Italy, N. Spain, Swiss, Austria, Germany, BeNeLux…) or glum Scandinavians could ever hope to re-capture. Slam is more srs than deathcore via being made by poor trailer trash rather than middle class jocks who want to be rock stars, but does share many musical similarities. It’s very possible that many deathcore kids will flock to slam once they get out of high school, leading to either a massive boom in crushing slamz, or a bunch of artsy faggots trying to turn slam into a “legitimate form of artistic expression”. Let us pray to Krishna that it is not the latter. :(

My only issue with them is that their snare is mixed SO high in the mix, other than that, they rip.
I consider the snare the lead instrument in slam (srs)
