Its a weird time for pop music just now. Female pop singers have stopped trying really really hard to sound or look like Lady Gaga, and the trends are shifting. Adele is probably the most successful pop singer currently, and she is market more as a ‘real artist’ instead of a ‘fun dance singer’ like she easily could be. And that’s fine with me, Adele has some jams, and Rolling in the Deep is gonna be at karaoke bars for years. But I’m afraid of all the serious artist image copy cats that are soon to follow in her foot steps and be really bad at it. Though Gaga could probably pull it off. So before everyone gets all sad and bad at being super serious, I’m turning to a young rising star for my pop music needs!
The adorable Ariana Grande is here to fix everything! I have seriously played that song like twenty times today, cannot stop. Its brilliant marketing too, first half is classy fun pop music, where she shows off her killer voice. Totally good enough to get the attention of new serious artist Adele fans, almost Mariah Carey-esque in some parts, very impressive. But then the second half is a straight forward cover where she gets all dancey! Perfect to attract fans of fun danceable pop music! She can pull off both halves flawlessly, giving me hope for a fun transition period between Lady Gaga/Adele. Or at least a solid Ariana Grande album where she has a wide range of pop jams!

This is the first single from that album, and I think her only non-cover on the internet. At first I was afraid she was gonna be like a female Bruno Mars, tons of talent in covers, but then like no good songs when they have to make an album. But this is a pretty solid first song, pretty catchy, one of those ‘songs with a message’. It should be sandwiched between adorable songs about love or flowers or whatever, you know, the good stuff. Also I found this awesome live version of a new song and its a guaranteed jam. Her album just became one of my most anticipated for the twenty twelves! <3

Yeah, I did… thought the vocals were still kinda 90s. I guess that’s the “serious artist” thing – no massive compression, no blatant autotune, and she doesn’t even rap.
I love the retro pop and the electro pop stuff she’s got, so it works for me. But who knows, maybe TWOSTACKS is sending her a beat as we speak.
