LATIN FOR TRUTH have the ‘youth crew blues’ (and sound like LIT)

It makes me sad that LIT doesn’t get more love aside from hearing “My Own Worst Enemy” on the ‘hard rock’ radio station every now and then when I walk past a construction site. I’ll write an in-depth post about them one of these days, but they are a tragically underrated power-pop band who should be way more influential than they are. Which is why I am so stoked that there is a band called LATIN FOR TRUTH that sounds like LIT if they decided to capitalize on the tr00 pop-punk scene:

I thought their old easycore stuff was p sweet, so not sure why it took me so long to check out this out, but I’m definitely feeling it. Notes:

  • SINGER SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE AJ FROM LIT. Music isn’t too far off either!
  • Not sheriff intro is sincere, but I will go ahead and expose myself to potential ridicule by assuming that is. Feel like ‘he rly understands how my mind works’ because I sometimes find myself slipping into negativity but then I’m liek ‘stay positive bro, rmbr that YOUTH OF TODAY song u liked in 9th grade and u loved singing along to the part that went ‘PHYSICALLY STRONG, MORALLY STRAIGHT POSITIVE YOUTH WE’RE THE YOUTH OF TODAY??? Wat would Civ say??’ Srs doe, I can definitely get behind these lyrics.
  • The ‘band standing in front of flashing strobe light’ thing = seizure/10. I remember when BOTCH did this in the 90s and John from UNDERTOW/HIMSA/NINEIRONSPITFIRE was their ‘light guy,’ sort like how ANTZ from Brokencyde is credited with ‘lights/fog machine’
  • Is it a rule that bands with ‘husky’ singers are required to have zany, bittersweet lyrics full of biting sarcasm (aka the “BOWLING FOR SOUP rule”)? Does his tie fall under this rule as well, or is that just what chubbybros do when they’re going to get their picture taken and ‘want to look nice’ (via Jonah Hill)?

Stoked their gym teacher let them use the equipment room for this! I’m glad to see young bands getting support like that!

  2. Walker says:

Maybe the whole chubbybros and zaniness phenomenon is due to the fact that they would otherwise be completely invisible if they didnt attract attention by doing wacky bullshit. It is sort of like how all of the “zany/random” kids in high school are super-awkward, not very intelligent and usually unfortunate looking spazzes that would otherwise be completely marginalized and ignored if they didnt do annoying stuff to get everyone’s attention for 5 seconds. Perhaps the difference here is that the bitter lyrics reflect that the chubbybro is smart enough to realize his plight, but doesnt have the self control to stop their destructive ways.

What? I went to a LOT of schools in my time and all the awkward/unintelligent/groses hardly talked to anyone. Everywhere I’ve been the zany/randoms were considered semi cool at the very least.

      • Walker says:

Interesting- at my high school they were the weird outcasts who wore trenchcoats and were obsessed with monty python and invader zim.

  3. Kvlt times Kvlt measvres says:

Wait. We’re not allowed to like Monty Python?

I didn’t even know they were called LIT!!!!

anything that reminds me of my version of old FATHER/DINOSAUR rock OR NU MEH-THAL of the late 90s/early 00s is thumbs up by my standards!!

Never listened to Lit much, but dude sounds exactly like the Smash Mouth dude to me. If you told me it was his nephew I would believe it wholeheartedly.

    I can get behind that.

  8. fatboy says:

  11. Neon Jesus says:

I love Lit (via being an oldfag that loves 90s alt rock, especially the more power pop oriented stuff), so I had high hopes for this band and they definitely delivered. Thanks again for awesome music Sarge!

Over My Head by Lit is a contender for GOAT pop punk song.

    THIS
if you remember scarlet and actually got to see them when the singer wasn’t on a coke fueled binge or whatever…their light show was horrifically seizure inducing.

Remember that movie Titan IE?? Lit was featured on the soundtrack – “Over My Head” was my jam back in the days, but the song is pretty weird in context of the movie. The guys probably had a lot of fun shooting the video, though:
