chango studios-core

if u are a regular reader @ stuffyouwillhate, u might remember a while back there was a joey sturgis apreesh post  calling him one of the “sickest producers of all time”. while i dont disagree with this statement, i think ppl need to be educated on a man who culd potentially give sturgis a run for his money.

chango studies (run by a bro named cameron mizell)  is at the leading forefront of overproduced synthcore. picture going to record there as kinda like a musical version of pimp my ride, except instead of gettin LED headlights, chrome plating, a colorful paint job and a TV in your steering wheel, u are getting the illest drum samples,  tons of kewl glitchy studio effects, da perfect guitar tone, and the siqest bass drops known to man. which is why im dubbing cameron mizell as the xzibit of post-hardcore.

ontop of producing some of the scene’s current most reputable bands ( woe is me, i see stars, sleeping with sirens, memphis may fire + many many more), mizell is responsible for producing a whole slew of up and coming bands that a bunch of ppl will say sound exactly the same, except that they (for the most part) all sound epic.

“travelers” sounds like the name of some indie folk band, and on top of that , they’re all dressed like mumford and sons in dis music video, but with all that aside, this song goes p. hard. right when i heard the chopped up vocals at then the following breakdown i knew i would love dis song. the lyrics are bordering on srscore (this is more than a passion, this is more than a dream!) but its rly catchy and the breakdowns go hard so dis band is definitely one to look out for.

i guess dis band didnt feel like makin the trip to the nearest abandoned warehouse, cuz all i could find from them is lyric videos. my first impression of this song is DAMN the synth and breakdowns go hard. probably some of my fav moments in the overproduced synthcore genre, is when theres a rly epic synth part over a breakdown and then ANOTHER epic synth part comes in on top of it, (peep 2:28-2:41 for a good example of dis duel synth action). apart from some repetitive lyrics (you’re just falling faster now and you’re just falling faster now = lyrical genius) i think this band is p. damn sweet so i checked for some of their other stuff and stumbled upon an older song. that awkward moment when you realize how crappy these bands sound without siq production :(

prob one of the most promising up and coming bands to come out of chango studios (tho apparently they jus recorded their full length with joey sturgis.. sell outs! :( ). being named after a my chemical romance song and looking like from first to last’s 2004 lineup, u might be thinking this is gonna be some myspace-era emo revival band, but in fact it’s some of the most epic synthcore i’ve heard to date. sadly im not sheriff theyll get the recognition they deserve, and the venue in this music video might end up being the biggest one they play :( peep their EP tho it srsly goes hard

omg, dis song goes SO FUCKIN HARD. its not even synthcore anymore, its fuckin ORCHESTRACORE. i rly hope this band gets their buzz up, caus they are epic. being signed to mediaskare is a good start, but their album got pushed back (it was supposed to come out in may and still isnt out), i couldnt find any music video OR lyric video from them either and on top of that, if u go on their facebook, they dont have any music uploaded there and same thing with their purevolume. the songs of theirs on youtube were uploaded by other ppl. i like dis band alot but it seems like theyre trying to keep their music under wraps, possibly cuz they think it might be too epic for the rest of the world to handle? kinda like a pirate trying to protect his hidden treasure.

last band ill talk about is crown the empire. probably the most popular up-and-coming band to come out of chango studios (besides capture the crown, who i talked about in my last post). idk, theyre not super bad or anything but this just doesnt go that hard to me? i checked their EP and i felt the same way about all their other songs. the breakdowns arent dat strong, the hooks arent really that catchy, the synth is pretty bland and i forget its even there half the time. they just got signed to rise records recently, so i hope they can step it up for their major label debut but idk… i guess mediocrity = success :(

what are ur fav cameron mizell albums? do u think he has what it takes to compete with joey sturgis as a producer? will 90% of these up-and-coming chango studios bands ever get recognition or just go unnoticed via sounding exactly like 100 other bands?

mind = blown at someone in south florida (where there are plenty of spanish-speakers) choosing the name ‘chango’ (which means monkey, and is used like ‘nigger’)

    • Stephen Martin says:

As someone who has recorded there, this is next level news. I always assumed it was one of those random names that people assign to their brand because it sounds like, “we know what’s on the cutting edge, and have a crazy unheard of name to back that up”. However, and I don’t want to be that guy that nit-picks, but Orlando is lights years from South FL in regards to how prominent the Spanish influence is. I’ve met, partied with, played shows with Cameron 100′s of times and genuniely believe he didn’t name the studio with any kind of racist intent, although now I wish he had :/ Either way, great to see a post highlighting a great bro and great studio. Back Tard!

aww i was waiting for at least one of the bands to have a mexi drummer w/ no passion wutsover o well you can’t win em all…

  2. Sergeant D says:

also, hard lol @ “i guess dis band didnt feel like makin the trip to the nearest abandoned warehouse, cuz all i could find from them is lyric videos”

  3. Ink Deep says:

The Last of our Kind absolutely kills it. His shit with With Crown and Tail is going to be unreal too!

    • uppercut613 says:

does anyone know whats up with them? the whole not releasing their songs thing and their album getting pushed back, seems like theres some conflict goin on with their label. i need that album doe

ill check with crown and tail again, but i think i remember hearin them and not bein that impressed

  4. Ink Deep says:

If I’m not Cam’s rates are lower Joey Sturgis’, so he can record no-name bands alongside sweet bigger bands. But Joey seems weird. He once made a Tweet about how women were unnatractive unless they wanted to have babies so I called him a cisgender pig and he got butthurt about it.

  5. Rob says:

The Crown the Empire EP is fun as hell. I love it.

  6. debbie says:

best album for me is sleeping with sirens let’s cheers to this (2011). loving it!

  7. Save Parker says:

This is the guy all the richest synthcore bands go to in a last ditch effort to ‘live our their dreams’. If you don’t get signed like a year after having a synthcore record out with this guy, you prolly weren’t cut out to be a successful synthcore group, cause all the ones making money went through him first.

  8. Keka says:

Is it just me or is metalcore sounding super-djenty these days?

    • Rob says:

Well if you downtune far enough distorted guitars start to “djent” slightly anyway. But I’m pretty sure they’re making it worse on purpose.

    • PinkBeetleRapistsFromChicago says:

Dude, djent and nu-metal are the two most common genres being jocked in the “-core” scenes right now. Attack Attack! went djenty and Of Mice & Men went nu-metal. I’m just waiting for when “-core” bands start jocking black metal. (semi-srs)

      • Sergeant D says:

^ sad and groce but completely true

      • Anonymous John says:

I don’t really hear any djenty stuff in any of these songs. Some of the guitar tones are similar, and they bonk around on the top string for breakdowns I guess.

ANYWAY, The Last Of Our Kind is actually pretty sweet. I hope they get their shit together so I can hear more.

Cameron Mizell – The Ryan Friedlinghaus of Epic Synthcore.
How do you like this business card copy?

  10. Dan says:

hella robotic sounding, yet still great production. mirin the glitchy effects, especially in Hands Like Houses’ new album (which is fucking awesome btw, check it out)

  11. yup says:

I feel like if H&M went bankrupt the 1st band would just play naked, but still, wood jog in place to them/10

  12. Watt Par says:

Clearly these bands are going nowhere, because they are forgetting the most important part of 2k12 trancecore: you have to have dubstep parts, too.

    • uppercut613 says:

i think i remember hearing other unknown bands that recorded with him using dubstep, but i left them out cause they were some of the crappier chango bands ive heard haha. i see stars do the whole adding dubstep thing right.

  13. Pixy says:

What do you guys think of the new For All Those Sleeping? Best scenecore i have heard recently imo

    • uppercut613 says:

man. their first album is SOOO much better :( i hate how they got rid of their poppy element. the first album had variety atleast., i feel like the new one is just the same mediocre song over and over. need to give it a few more listens doe but yeh not rly feelin it :(

    • darkdude41 says:

Outspoken is a pretty damn good album, a little bit too angry for my tastes at times though

  14. onlyhatebreedisreal says:

butt is hurting SO BAD right now. Joey Sturgis kills this guy. It’s pretty well-documented that bands and labels don’t give Joey much breathing room, but even if that’s the case with Cameron, there’s no excuse for his records to sound this shitty for so long. Guitar tone=inaudible. Glitch effects=all up in your face (strong urge to educate everyone at what “real engineering/producing is”). He’s also a POS who doesn’t give bands/labels under contract with him mixes on time, will put off even working on CD’s after he’s been paid too.

Severe anus rupture, brb going to hospital.
    :((((((((((((( halp

    • onlyhatebreedisreal says:

however, at least he isn’t working with bands that I liked in the first place (minus Dream On, Dreamer, Hope was P good)

      • uppercut613 says:

i dont know anything about producing/engineering but camerons stuff sounds A+++ to me, so thats all i care about. so many underground synthcore bands with crap production that i wish would record with him.

        • onlyhatebreedisreal says:

ugh, it’s almost TOO easy to create a fucking fake POD farm tone in about an hour that would sound better than Cameron’s crap. I think Cameron would be way better as a hip-hop producer lol

  15. Latinoheat!!! says:

somebody tell me the difference btwn scene/synth-core and risecore… my metalhead brain can’t tell da diff…

good lulz on the “orchestra”core and that feeling when their epic production is in dire need since they sound like shit w/o it!!!

idk why but is it me or is it that every blonde chick in these music videos are always making my sack tingly n giving me ragers and makes me wanna be a sellout and move to the OC so i can live a mediocre upper middle class to upper class lifestyle near the beach of course =P

wood bro down w/ crowns just so i can meet her via her being the white boi guitarists sister or college friend or something…

  16. Honestabenread says:

The singer of Famous Last Words is a total bro. Used to play tons of shows with those guys.

  17. JW says:

I like how nu-metal didn’t manage to kill off synchronized jumping routines.
