‘I hate it when my friends do drugs, or are sxe, or have girlfriends’

Not sure who this band is, but I had to post them as a particularly embarrassing example of ‘calling out my peers for being n2 childish stuff liek partying and getting laid, which i am not into bc i am a grownup who is only into srs, revelant things.’ In this case, they take it to the next level by including straightedge in the same category as banal activities like chasing girls, indicating that they are so advanced and grown-up that they hate ALL forms of fun, not just the ones popular people are into!

Oh man, with most of the stuff you post there is at least a plausible way for retardeds to think the way they do, I mean I’ll still make fun of them but in a lighthearted way, but this is just straight up ridiculous, how can anyone think this way?

  2. Justwannasay says:

Lol the song is by Letlive, def have seen a few too many friends quote this on Tumblr. Especially the part about girls.

  3. Jimmy Rustler says:

The band’s called letlive. I kinda like them, though (no homo)

    • Sergeant D says:

A lot of people on Tumblr asked me what I think about this band, but I never got around to listening to them. I am pretty sure that was for the best.

Oh and their name– THE IRONING

      • SexHaver1987 says:

I fuckin’ love them, but I know you’re not into the more spastic, Glassjaw-ish side of hardcore, so yeah, these guys probably aren’t for you :) . The lead singer has a cameo at the end of You’re Demise’s “I’m (Not) the One” from their newest album, though, if you just want a taste of their style.

      • ultraspatial says:

“Fake History” (the album which features this song) is really good. Sounds like an upgraded Glassjaw. Like if Glassjaw were a Rise band.

  4. Mike C says:

    Hermitcore.

  5. tickle says:

lol i thought this was the rapper deathgrips

  6. Chillin' says:

Was gonna say “Amaze” but then I realized it was actually some band’s lyrics. Speechless. Absolutely speechless. How do you manage to find more than one person so buttdevastated that they hate everything else? Is this what happens to all those gay porn actors that are part of a gangrape scene or s/t because I cannot understand how else someone’s butt could get this hurt under normal circumstances.

  7. Walker says:

Inb4 gang vocal chant “NO. FUN. ALLOWED.”

  8. ultraspatial says:

haha this is my favourite Letlive song actually. I think they’re just taking the piss though.

  9. dingdong says:

Need song title, I wish to investigate the claims that someone is even more NFC than I am.

  10. comrade V says:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY3YniYLxX0 LET butthurt LIVE not partying since whenever they started.

  11. SexHaver1987 says:

When I read it on paper like that, I can see how it comes off as NFC, but it really works in context of the song. If you imagine it is sung by a whiny 19-year old in a tr00 pop-punk band it definitely sounds lame, but the desperation in the singer’s voice in letlive. during that part makes it work, IMO.

  12. jake says:

the thick beard of the lead singer tells me everything i need to know.

  13. somerandomfucker says:

I am 12 years old what is this

  14. Save Parker says:

Love this band, always took it to mean drug addicts are shitty and straight edge dudes are assholes so moderate that shit. Pretty sure they at least do some drugs and drink, they just aren’t dicks about it on either extreme.

And I guess some girl gave him and his buddies the AIDs. Oh well, you gotta wrap that shit up man. Sucks to suck.

  15. Lou says:

Rly love this band and “totally get what their site is about”. That said I laughed my fucking ass off at this article. Oh Sarge, don’t stop pointing out how ridiculous the things I like are!

  16. cougar party says:

  19. eurotrash says:

OK, Let’s see what we got here (lyrics viciously misinterpreted):

The poem opens with the word ‘fuck’ for effect (author then uses it once more in the first line), making a strong foundation for sexual imagery later on by invoking the broad connotation of the four letter word. However, it is first used to denounce abstract concepts that supposedly ‘got’ the best of his friends. There seems to be a curious tension between the bold and vulgar exclamation, and its rather timid objects (the portrayal of drugs and the sxe lifestyle as equally damaging forces is counter-productive: the opposing forces cancel each other out and we are left in a strange state of neutered equilibrium).

In the fourth line we are introduced to – what we assume is – the underlying problem, the real source of dramatic conflict in the poem: girls, and their questionable behavior, again, in relation to author’s friends. The tension of the first part, however, is now elevated to almost apocalyptic (but certainly superhuman) dimensions: an arguably large number of girls are actively pursuing the goal of having sexual relationships with ALL of author’s friends in order to gain social currency, especially peer recognition (see “make it a trend”).

Text comes to a conclusion in a rather confused and slightly disturbing manner. The message is vague, and due to its passive-aggressive tone, it is awkward as a threat.
What do the bed, the traditional symbol of debauchery, and kneeling, the traditional metaphor for submission, have in common? What kind of lethal disease could it be that threatens the good and bad alike? (One could argue that promiscuous sex and intravenous drug use could both result in HIV infection, but how do people with abstinent lifestyles, ie sxe adherents and the author themselves, fit into this frame?) Is death itself the deadly disease? Or should we assume there is a deeper metaphor to all this?

After careful analysis we have come to the conclusion that the underlying message can be summed up as:
The female form is the apocalypse.

Author perceives women as a menacing force, which kills everything author loves via an unstoppable campaign of sexual conquests. Drugs and sxe are just the precursors to the inevitable onslaught, but the real damage will be actively dealt by girls.

It is important to note that ‘fucking’ as a form of human interaction is exlusively pursued by girls in the poem. They are the ones that select and chase down their prey, whereas ‘friends’ are objects, and author is the victim. Poem could be construed as a cry for help?

The message is important; what it means, though, is the real issue here: Why would author convey this message, and what is the reason this message is covered in so many layers of posturing and repression, emotional outburst and misdirected anger? Where does this angst come from?

The answer lies in author’s views on friendship; the importance and meaning of having friends around; what kind of attachment is acceptable for young men. There is a strong sense of loss throughout the poem; frustration seems to provide the emotional canvas which this bleak world of male rejection and female mockery is painted upon. Author is clearly mourning the loss of loved ones, and the impossibility of future love due to female interference. Author dreads girls and idolizes male friendship, and wishes that other, more intangible forces that threaten male-male relationships would cease to exist.

All in all, author will have to come to terms with their own sexuality, orientation and desires, and the frightening yet exciting consequences and possibilities they posit, and embrace the outcome before they can grow as a lyrical artist.

tl;dr version: gayvirgincore – needs more cocks shooped

  20. InsecureGorilla says:

yeah these lyrics definitely come out butthurt as fuck

sad because i actually really love letlive. and they’re especially great live

their vocalist Jason is actually a super cool guy though. he didn’t act NFC at all both times i got to talk to him after a show

  21. fuzzyxpickles says:

    i fuckin love this band

  22. CapItalI says:

Straight edge is pretty faggoty though

  23. Mark says:

The songs about a lot more then just this. It’s more about saying to not get caught up in things like that and make them your life. Good band, interesting combination of influences across the board.

  24. Telly says:

rly disappointed at all the readers of this site who are backing this terrible fucking band. Deadly srs.

  25. Chinny chin chins says:

    These bros are like glassjaw-by-numbers.

  26. derekpants says:

Love this band. No fucks given. I’m more upset that Jason cut his hair and grew a hobo beard than anyone making fun of them. Srsly looks awful.

    • Chillin' says:

Getting upset over people making fun of a band, esp when it’s this warrented is fucking gayer than watching a Ron Jeremy video while you fantasize that the girl depicted there is actually just your anus. Srs, idgaf if you like the band, you gotta admit the lyrics are fucking hilarious.

Not targetting you bro, btw, just sayin’ it’s one of these things that it’s best not to use the “analyze the deeper context excuse” which was aptly and rightfully dismissed up abov and you go “yeah, haha, this band is made of fucking virgins with creepy perception of male-male relationships, but at least they go hard af” or s/t along the lines.

      • derekpants says:

Nope not defending them at all. I know its not for everyone and that’s cool. I still love them (all homo). THEY CAN DO NO WRONG!

Edit: except getting shitty hair cuts and growing homeless beards. Srsly wtf brah?

  27. Joe says:

Letlive are pretty sweet, saw them live with Enter Shikari and Your Demise, the lead singer was very energetic, he was climbing all over the venue and singing with audience members. Good, fun music.
