As both a purist and philosopher, I can only judge the validity of an ideological position or artistic statement by taking it to its logical extreme. Only by testing the limits of an idea can we truly evaluate the intellectual foundation upon which it rests.
This is why I appreciate the TEXA$ band FEIGN, who are essentially what would happen if you took the song from last week’s ‘Lowest-Tuned Breakdown Ever‘ post and used it as the basis for an entire band. Like Socrates’ thought-provoking questions that revealed the intellectual blind spots in his contemporaries’ thought processes, FEIGN takes the idea of the sickeningly brutal, absurdly downtuned breakdown band to it’s logical extreme. It doesn’t just validate the idea, it points the way to a glorious, utopian future where they use the breakdown like Monet wielded a paintbrush– in other words, YOU’RE FUCKING MOSHING.
