TWITCHING TONGUES’ new 7″ achieves LIFEOFAGONYCORE nirvana

I liked TWITCHING TONGUES’ old stuff, but I didn’t love it– it just didn’t quite click with me for whatever reason. That’s not a knock on them, because we have to consider ‘degree of difficulty’: what they are trying to pull off is some advanced-level shit. Anybody can bang out some retarded moshcore songs in a weekend, but following in the footsteps of what IMO is one of the 90s most original and talented hardcore bands (LIFE OF AGONY) is tricky shit.

Well, it may have taken them a while to get there but with their new 7″ they definitely fucking pulled it off– I feel like I am 15 again, sitting in my room with the lights off feeling sorry for myself and listening to Keith Caputo sing about how nobody understands him and being like ‘I KNOW THAT FEEL BRO I AM ALSO MISUNDERSTOOD BY MY PEERS *cri*’ In all seriousness though, this is some top-level shit and I am very stoked to hear this sound make a comeback- I just can’t decide whether to mosh or slit my wrists!!

Cop the 7″ here and holler at them on Facebook here

  1. nochance says:

Didn’t even know there was a band named after a sick Only Living Witness song.

  2. Backed, these guys are one of the most talented hardcore bands out there right now to be able to pull off this style. I dunno, when you build up breakdowns like this, it almost makes them more heavy

  3. this guy has the comments says:

Expected some really intense self-hatred-core, got the kind of thing I used to listen to when I was thirteen and didn’t know music with yelling existed.

u still have the ability, but my disappoint is high right now.

    • Sergeant D says:

bro if this doesn’t scream self-hatred to you, i don’t know what does

      • this guy has the comments says:

It’s more the musical style, I’m sure the lyrics are pretty spot on.

I just can’t get into it at all, it’s probably good doe.

        • TLDR says:

I got the same vibe from the old stuff but liked it anyways. TBH I always got that vibe from Life of Agony too, just can’t really get into that dudes voice.

I actually like this new TT much more than any LOA I’ve ever heard. haha

  4. pete nasty says:

    Best band in hardcore

  5. Sean says:

LIFEOFAGONYCORE??? BACKING DIS SHIT HARDER THAN VISIONOFDISORDERCORE OR SNAPCASECORE. LETTUCE BE CEREAL AND LETTUCE GOES FOR RECORD SAYING THAT “RIVER RUNS RED” IS STILL THE BEST HARDCORE RECORD OF THE 90′S.

  6. Autodidact says:

River Run Red was one of my favorite “cri maiself 2 sleep” album in middle school, feelsbatman.mpq =(

Also, who else wants to see Life of Agony with Mina Caputo on vocals (no homer)?

  7. Bronson says:

HOLY FUCK THAT LAST MOSH AT THE END. Took me a while to get used to Life Of Agony’s vocals, but once it clicks, it’s a pretty interesting sound – especially considering how gnarly the music is.

    • Sergeant D says:

initially i didn’t like LOA’s vocals either, but after I got used to it I realized they are what makes the band so fucking crushingly heavy– there is something about that vocal style that screams self-hatred and regret more than actual screaming does

      • Bronson says:

Might sound like a gay over analysis, but it might have something to do with the fact that you really need to give a total of zero fucks to be willing to sing melodically in a genre where you can easily hide behind generic screaming. Nobody’s gonna make fun of you for your bark for being off-key, but juxtaposing singing with brutal mosh parts is basically expresses an open desire to get accosted by a portion of your audience for having wimpy, unbrutal vocals. So, if you’re knowingly setting yourself up for that kind of criticism, kinda says something about the sort of person you are.

        • Sometimes I Liak 2 Pretend says:

i c youve thought about this

        • junjunweet says:

back any and all variations of this in hardcore, and feel that it is an essential component of REGRETCORE. One of the worst and most important parts of being a strung out piece of shit loser is being completely embarrassed by your life, and what better way to express that than sounding like a shitty hard rock band? #fromblisstodevastationcore

  8. bob foster says:

no mention of keith c being a lady now?

he was definitely in b4 against me guy

  9. Watt Par says:

So why is this LOAcore and not Entombedcore? Is it the vocals? I’m asking because I’m a poser who has never listened to LOA and I am curious.

  10. Gloomy Grim says:

This sounds like Nirvana 2002/Furbowl with no groove, then pile some Ghost ripoff eerie vocals on top. Not as good as the real thing. There, sorteditout4u!

    • Bronson says:

Darn, I would’ve caught all this and not liked it at all had I only known about the tr00 metal bands you mentioned! Thanks, for a second there I was under the impression this band actually didn’t have anything to do with deservedly obscure Swedish DM or neo dadrock!

      • Sergeant D says:

I have srs never heard any of these bands and I am ok with keeping it that way.

      • Nightshift says:

Ghost is the guys from Repugnant playing really boring fruity hard rock in dumb costumes to appeal to hipsters (and admittedly, a larger amount of chicks) instead of shit-kicking Repulsion worship in their day job band.

    • nu♘♘tej says:

I disagree totally, to my ears this sounds liek a subtle mixture of 24-7 SPYZ and MASTERS HAMMER w’ slight hints of BEN FOLDS FIVE & JODECI + a nice, smooth finish of sublimated transsexualism.

  11. richard brunelle says:

that’s a sweet bolt thrower riff they start off with

  12. hate5six just uploaded their set from This is Hardcore, goes p hard:

Twitching Tongues (Full Set) from hate5six on Vimeo.

    • 9:45, ARE U MOSING FEGET

      • this is a name says:

gotta love the fact that jeremy from lifeless is totally the dude in grey shirt crowdkilling up front, srsly if theres someone who should be able to scare kids in the pit its the singer of fucking lifeless

    • richard brunelle says:

good to see hardcore is the last bastion of no girls aloud show environments

the five or six bishes show up to metal gigs on the reg ruin the whole thing; i just wanna get sweaty with some bros with equally beefy arms and not worry about feeling self-conscious about my testosterone y’know

  13. jateeg says:

Ghost is the super grose, grose. Brb, acquiring a pope hat to play dress-up with my band.

  14. Isaac says:

I first heard about these guys from one of Vincent Bennett’s shirts– good shit!

  15. Tears of buttstration says:

Who wants to play trombone in my dog eat dog inspired band? Must have pro gear/look and at least 1 pair of snowboard pants.

    • xheartburnX says:

I’m down. We will need a sax player too. I actually listened to this album(and again right now) the other day on spotify because spotify told me it was similar to Biohazard. Not sure why I decided to listen to Urban Discipline though.

“You’re the King if you can sing like the king of Rock & Roll
Filled with soul and all fucked up on Demerol”

  16. suchjosh says:

This isn’t really my thing, but this is way heavy in a 100% unique way that I can’t really describe. Backed.

  17. Midas Welby says:

    “Aint-got-time-4-me-core”

  18. GoingDeaf? says:

This is kinda meh compared to LOA, but backed for giving the style a go.

River Runs Red is def one of the best HC albums of the 90′s… also notable for DAT GUITAR TONE.

    • Sergeant D says:

I like Ugly way more– RRR has 3 or so really good songs (Respect, Underground, Method Of Groove) and quite a few stinkers. Ugly has way way way better production too.

    • TLDR says:

THIS, guitar tone and recording quality in general is one of the things that kept me listening to LOA way more than I would have otherwise. Especially considering it was 90′s HC and the recordings usually sucked

  19. Lars Weiss says:

So sick and heavy as fuck. I really like this a lot, especially the vox. A+

  20. generikidiot says:

Just sounds like butt rock to me….

Also, Nirvana was the Nickleback of the 90′s

    • Sergeant D says:

I support your efforts to slay sacred cows, but The Offspring are the real ‘Nickleback of the 90s’

      • TLDR says:

The Offspring are the real ‘Nickleback of the 90s’

rly? I never knew that, would love to hear elaboration if you’re willing (srs)

        • richard brunelle says:

two lines of thought on this

1- inexplicably popular despite nobody admitting openly they like them, which also describes 311 to a t

2- legions of butthurt tr00 fags exist primarily to bitch about them even tho they’re pretty upfront about making music for people who don’t give a shit about “music” as a lifestyle choice and just want some jams, tho 90s green day fit the bill more on that front

          • nu♘♘tej says:

Occasionally I bump into Pat the singer for the band Train at the dog-park, I always hit him with something along the lines of, “Hey dude, what’s ur band Nickelback/Matchbox 20/3rd Eye Blind/Counting Crows up to these days?” & then I go on and on about how much I love music piracy & how Roethlisberger is a tard. He has the most amazingly pedestrian taste in everything. I’m pretty sure he hasn’t caught on yet. Is Drake the Ja Rule of today?

          • TLDR says:

Really? I know tons of no fuck giving semi bros/bros who love them the same way and for the same reasons they love Green Day – they were the gateway to skate punk. That’s totally how it was for me too, although I definitely liked Offspring a lot less than Green Day.

I’m really glad I never encounter such tr00 fags.

  21. Zoloft says:

brb adding this band to my “after the alcohol” playlist

  22. Nightshift says:

These guys look like freshman TKE pledges at any State U. What is the source of their angst? Having to switch to business mgmt because the engineering pre-reqs were too hard? Being second or third string benchwarmers throughout high school despite all the Hatebreed and Terror they listened to?

    • Sergeant D says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them was IN terror at some point (the one dude from TT is also in Nails and recorded the Xibalba album so seems like there is a high statistical likelihood at least one member was in Terror for at least a little)

      • xheartburnx says:

“if you’re over the age of 30, you probably know someone who has been in terror”

      • TLDR says:

I know Taylor and can confirm that this is not true (YET), but considering his prolific band experience and diverse songwriting abilities, it certainly seems likely to be in his future.

Not sure if you knew this, but just to bust balls I’ll throw out that both Taylor and Colin were in (do u remember) Fight Everyone.

        • Anonymous says:

Woah, woah, woah. Two members were in a retarded XXXXmoshcoreXXXX band that made AFB and Throwdown look intelligent!

          • TLDR says:

Def made Throwdown look intelligent, IDK about AFB tho, I’d say they were on the same level as FE except less well executed imo

    • richard brunelle says:

      bact

definitely too beta to be pikes, gotta go with teke

  23. jorbam says:

Not on Spotify yet :(. But apparently Slightly Stoopid put out a new album, so I’m pretending I’m 17 again and super into skateboarding/white kid reggae!

  24. Haystack says:

Listen to dat ucking snare. Pouuup.

  25. CableReadyTumblrSlut says:

Vocals make it sound like Highonfirecore. Do not want.

  26. Void Eater says:

You know the music does it’s job well when even SYWH commentors are acting a little negative towards it.

    • agreed. i know that when i smell sywh controversy, thats when my ears pick up.
when half the people here are like “this sucks” and the other half are like “holy shit this rules”, its time to give it a listen and see what all the fuss is about.

      and the verdict:
twitching tongues = now back tard by me
(which is irrelevant to everyone else here but whatever)
      opinions are for fags, right

  27. Brah says:

Type O Negative for kids in AirMax 95s they picked up at Journey’s in the mall.

  28. Brah says:

Will I like this in 5 years?

  29. wlfblnkt says:

I don’t know much about bands from the 90′s that weren’t followtheleaderbonussamplercdcore, but overall this sounds 90′s as fuck, and if it’s basically Life of Agony I need to stop sleeping on that shit and get around to checking it out. Probably this too. Thanks brah!

  30. TLDR says:

For some reason (pleasantly) surprised to see this on SYWH – I know you are a big fan of what I consider “regular” hardcore, but was under the impression you followed it less. I guess my impression was ill founded, considering the recent xibalba podcast.

This post ruled! So does the song

  31. An Bearded Euro says:

Backtard – LOA were killer, this pushes many of the same miserable, chunky buttons.

  32. Anonymous says:

    Really like this band! Thanks.

  33. Open Window Maniac says:

So much negative faggotry up in here. :( praying4uguys
But TT is one of those bands that when I first heard I was like “wait, wtf is this? not sure if want” and then it just clicked one day. But this new shit=backtard. I love what they’ve put out already, but this is such a huge improvement.

  34. BruvMcBro says:

Saw them live a while back, wasn’t into them when I listened to the records but got blown away live and moshed hard, this stuff is next level doe. Fucking rager! Wood hold hands together in mandatory tuff guy pose waiting for a perfect moment to bring the mosh.
