more studies from the recent boy-band influx

if u grew up in the 90s, u might remember when boy bands made all the girls cream and ruled the music charts. not too long ago, those days seemed to be long in the past and forbidden. liek, imagine if u said to someone in liek 2007 “hey man a boy band revival is coming soon”. they would probably laugh at u. but now, with this recent resurgence of boy bands, a new generation has been created. dinosaur boybands from past generations have taken note of this, and have made comebacks, even in the form of an amalgamated supergroup.

canadian boyband “b44″, pioneering the “guido” look, a decade before it became popular

in my article about fangirling, i briefly touched upon a few of the more popular nu-boybands of today (big time rush, the wanted, & one direction), concluding that one direction is the only one who’s doing it TOTALLY right. unfortunately, all of the other boybands ive discovered recently dont live up to the same quality standards, but lets take a look at the findings anyways…

http://youtu.be/aMJ-X7FmoMM

apparently heart2heart is a creation of ex-N*Sync member Lance Bass (the gay 1), who can be seen at the beginning of the video… if thats the case, WTF ? bein a member of one of the most successful boybands, u think he’d know how to create one. i think its funny that a bunch of dudes with 2007 scene hair (wtf is up with those cuts?) made a song and the first line is “log on, cause myspace is dead”. other than that, i’d say the dancing is decent, and the wardrobe is done right (white clothes are crucial for boybands). the music is ok but thats not that important… overall i’d give them like a 6/10. moving on….

i dont know what to think of IM5. i mean, theyre not horrible or anything. theyve got a cool dubstep breakdown part (this is key in nu-boybands). i guess theyr just not fun-loving and upbeat enough for me (kinda like what srscore is to boybands). i was almost gonna write them off completely until i saw their other video….

now THIS is the type of style they should be going for. the guy at the beginning needs to ditch the eyeliner (dis aint emo), but besides that , the band has a really great image going on. the music is catchy, and the dancing is on point. but even with all these points considered… something about it comes off as really amateurish… idk if its just me? its kinda like ark music factory’s version of a boyband. like, one direction to these guys would be what demi lovato is to rebecca black. like, rebecca black is pretty good and everything, but she’s nowhere near in the same league as demi lovato. overall i’d give them a generous 7/10.

ok, now we’re talking. at first i wasnt sure what to think of midnight red, then that lyric came up “you know we all graduated from the school for cool”. i was like, ok these guys are pretty badass. aside from the lyrical content, the dancing is notably really good. the song is also set up perfectly so that it gets catchier and more epic as it progresses. the first post-chorus dubstep/dance part gets me really stoked for the rest of the song.

i thought these guys were totally unknown until i saw a bunch of young biddies sportin’ their shirts on musiqueplus (which is liek the french canadian version of mtv)..

LMAO @ the vj getting the song title wrong. it must be weird being in a boyband that isnt even as big as liek pierce the veil.

overall i would give midnight red a solid 8/10 sheerly for potential factor (i could only find that one music video from them).

so that concludes my recent findings. if theres any new generation boybands i havent mentioned that u know of, be sure to drop a link in the comments.

what is ur fav nu-boyband? fav dinosaur boyband? will there ever be  another nu-boyband  as good as one direction?

b4-4, popularising thinly-veiled-blowjob-song-core before the masses were ready. so much courage.

my favourite boyband song was Ultra – Say It Once :(

  2. Void Eater says:

I just saw a Midnight Red ad on a youtube video, so clearly the record label sees potential in them to become a thing… They need to ditch the bald guy though, he looks like he’s 23 or something, way to old to be in a boy band.

  3. SolarFlareSuperior says:

Lol anybody remember bbmak(uk boy band lol), dream street(I used to think they sounded like girls bc they were like 13 when their album came out) and immature?

  4. MasterSlave says:

This will definitely be a big thing. And while the next big boy band may not be qualitatively as good as One Direction, they will be more popular. Do you get SBS in whatever country you’re from uppercut? I was going to ask if you’ve ever seen Pop-Asia? The Chinese/Japs/Koreans have been all over this shit for a while.

  5. disturbed_rox420 says:

yo peep that Void crosses shirt at :47 in that first Midnight Red video.

  7. Midas Welby says:

Whoever is getting their boy band’s video on MusiquePlus is doing it right. Winning Canada in the boyband arms race is akin to one of those shitty states determining the presidential race with their primaries.

    • uppercut613 says:

theyd need to get on muchmusic though, to win over the superior/english speaking portion of canada. or maybe mtv canada, but mtv canada seems to focus more on hipster affairs/indie music.

  8. uppercut613 says:

forgot to mention this in my post, but the dude from im5 (in the first video) is legit the first person ive seen to wear those adidas wing shoes

  9. That heart2heart group seems like someone saw a k-pop vid and tried to make a western version of an azn version of western boybands.

    • uppercut613 says:

yeah i think thats the idea, that they were trying to do like an american version of k-pop. apparently (this is all speculation) it was intended as a serious project at first, but then after lance bass saw all the negative feedback, he tried to play it off as a joke.

Overlooked detail: do boy bands have the ability with Lou Pearlman behind bars?

  12. VyceVictus says:

MFW that B4-4 video is virtually identical to my adolescent fantasies when I was same age as the black kid. Feels like the abyss just stared back into my soul man….
