There is redone straight pop punk version of Blink-182′s latest album, and it rlly bums me out :(

Zany art, not a good sign :/

So Blink-182 came out with that album Neighborhoods a while back, and the general consensus was that it was okay, solid, kinda boring, shitty, really who cares, etc. Some Blink fans were bummed and stuck to  remembering the times when they really good and when Tom Delonge wasn’t a total douchebag. So I saw this cover album from some band on bandcamp that made every song from in the old type of Blink-182 style, and thought that was a pretty cool idea for the fans, but more I checked it out, it just seemed dumber and douchier :(

Neighborhoods and Morningwoods, a humorous name that in concert with the 14 tracks is meant to pay homage to a legend in Pop Punk. If you noticed, the songs on this record consist of the entire Blink-182 album ‘Neighborhoods’. Most people think this in and of itself is a joke. I mean, why choose to cover what’s widely considered to be Blink’s worst album? Simple, it’s all in an effort to make each and every song sound more like the Blink-182 we all fell in love with back in the day.

To put it succinctly, the reason behind recording this album was to demonstrate how the original record should have sounded. That’s not a slight towards Blink-182 either. The fact that fans were disappointed with Blink’s latest album shows the kind of high standards that the Future Idiots and the fans hold the legendary trio to.

I want to make it absolutely clear that this isn’t an attempt to one-up somebody else’s material. It’s an attempt to make Mark, Tom and Travis proud by putting out an old-school Blink performance that even they and their fans can appreciate.

That’s the message on their page about it, and it just seems douchier every time I read it :( First off, they just attach ‘Morningwoods’ for no reason, no joke, no clever humor, just ‘haha, boners. super funny guys.’ That ‘should have sounded’ makes me cringe hard, like they’re some great guys doing Blink a favor for making the album sound like how they didn’t want it to sound, and saving the fans from listening to some shit. They come off as nostalgic assholes remembering Blink’s old stuff and being super pissed they didn’t stay the same forever. I didn’t give a fuck bout that new album either, but I feel like it haunted their dreams and taunted them saying ‘Haha, we’re not twenty year old kids playing pop punk in basements anymore and there’s nothing you can do about it!’ Cause it takes a lot of time and money to record a full length cover album. They must have been severely butthurt by Neighborhoods :(

Music videos of cover songs never fail to make me sad :/

I mean some of the songs sound pretty alright, but most of them just don’t translate that well to the style. And they barely change the songs at all, its pretty much all the same Neighborhoods songs with a different guitar tone. The whole idea just seems like a huge dick move and insult to the Blink bros. I feel like they could have way more easily written their own album of sweet pop punk jams and released it without even giving a fuck about some band they use to like not sounding exactly the same. Instead they’re like both dick riding Blink-182 and shitting on them at the same time. I don’t know if you guys are that familiar with gay sex, but that’s just not something you do :(

This is still a great example of their premise executed well, new Blink song in old style just for fun, mostly to see what it would sound like, feeds some nostalgia bros but doesn’t insult the band he loves. The Future Idiots are just too stuck in the past to just move on and accept that Blink isn’t the same band, while not being creative enough to write their own good shit or really execute this idea in an interesting way. Really just everything about making this and releasing it for ten bucks on bandcamp sends out huge douche vibes.

I know some bros will be stoked it exists, but I’d rather just listen to old Blink songs like a normal person than a bunch of bitter dudes playing their new songs like their old songs :(((

  1. this guy has the comments says:

holy shit i didn’t even check until you mentioned it, but they are ACTUALLY CHARGING MONEY FOR THIS HOLY FUCK

  2. fuzz says:

That white guitar in the first video reminds me of the Shredwad from ATHF

  3. SolarFlareSuperior says:

These basically sound the same just sped up a bit. Instrumentally these bros are solid and I wish they’d write some originals in the vein of 01 blink(that’s what it sounds like to me anyways lol)

  4. Latinoheat!!! says:

    this no good…

no me gusta…. pero pinche old blink si me gusta…

now to look for dat enema of the state coaster somewhere in my old music family album status cd book shit…… damn… physical media is dead nowadays =P….

brofist to anyone who still uses cd’s in 2012 via being a poor who can’t afford an ipod ready stereo in a car!!

  5. Wes Borland says:

U know deez bros are Euros (Swedish to be precise)? Might explain a few things.

    • tr00 herper says:

U know deez commnts are starting to grind on me. (and not in the good way)

    • Save Parker says:

OH NO, really? that makes a lot of sense. I just figured they were from some shitty suburb of a shitty state where pretty much every big city was basically a suburb :/

    • Sergeant D says:

Ah, the Euro superiority complex/innate impulse to be condescending and humorless rears its ugly head again. Makes perfect sense.

      • xFredSavagecorex says:

They’re from Scandinavia, so they sort of have an excuse. Imagine it, the air is too cold to light a doobie, and if you try tugging the skin weasel, the dramatic rise in body heat will result in hypothermia.
        Feels icy, bro.

I live in a country where it rains 80% of the time and has about one nice week of weather a year. I have a decent job for someone my age but still live with my mom because our economy is so fucked that if I were to move out I’d be forced to rent some cockroach-infested shithole. So with regards to us being condescending and humorless, you are entirely right, the only element of humor that we do better than Americans is self-deprecation, and that’s only because our lives are so shitty that it’s really easy to make fun of ourselves.

Please pray for us Euros, Sgt D

        • xFredSavagecorex says:

Yeah I’m a Euro to (British), but I see no real need to move out of here to be honest. Well i’ve briefly considered moving to Croatia or Hungary for the beer prices and sun, but they’re still both European.

  6. tr00 herper says:

Man I enjoyed Neighborhoods, I liked that they applied their style to other sounds. It was difficult to listen at first but you kinda ‘get’ what they are trying to do after a few listens. Without checking this out it’s such a butt hurt response to that album. I don’t get why people listen to punk bands, and get annoyed when they develop, that’s kinda the point of punk.

  7. AT7 says:

that awkward moment when Limp Bizkit’s “Gold Cobra” is better than “Neighborhoods”.

  8. xFredSavagecorex says:

I am not big fan of 2012 era Xibalba, so I’m going to round up a rag-tag team of musicians and re-record the new album, but in the style of 2011 era Xibalba. I’ve got that retro steez, brah.

  9. what says:

why are you so fucking butthurt about this? why do you even care?

    • Void Eater says:

“So when I say that Man Overboard makes me feel like I guzzled a gallon of rageahol, what I really mean is “I am mildly annoyed by this band for the following reasons,””

Sergeant D on “What This Site Is Really About”

    • Sergeant D says:

Its really gay how everybody is shouting ‘butthurt’ so much these days. If nobody is allowed to have an opinion about anything without being accused of being ‘butthurt’ then let’s just shut down the whole internet other than streaming media services (with comments disabled, naturally, because hey we wouldn’t want anyone to post any butthurt remarks on there)

And anyway, the only butthurt person here is you, bro.

  10. Sergeant D says:

Some guy from the band emailed me this- trigger warning mild butthurt, defensiveness:

    http://i50.tinypic.com/2v9vy2x.jpg

  11. xsausedgex says:

This concept is blowing my mind right now. Does this happen often, kids remaking a band’s new album in their old style?

    Also, this:

“I want to make it absolutely clear that this isn’t an attempt to one-up somebody else’s material. It’s an attempt to make Mark, Tom and Travis proud by putting out an old-school Blink performance that even they and their fans can appreciate.”

So ridiculous. “We’re not trying to slight Blink 182, but we’re totally making that shitty album good so their fans, and even the band themselves, can still be proud of the band.” Wut?

    • Sergeant D says:

everything about this makes perfect sense when viewed through the lens of Euro knowitallism– ‘we have decided to correct your erroneous creative decisions, you can thank us later.’

    • Wes Borland says:

I’m gonna start doing this. Take Dashboard Confessional back to its roots, none of that “full band” shit.

  12. Is this what defending pop punk means?

  14. Wait&Wipe says:

the internet: “oh you dont like something? you must be butthurt and hate fun.”

  15. lol im so zany :3 says:

To be honest, I was just glad that, after reading the title, that KeezyKabeezy guy from Youtube wasn’t the one to put out something like this. Because that Up All Night cover is amazing.

  16. Michael Schorr says:

Future Idiots claim KeezyKabeezy had more of a hand in this than we’d like to believe unfortunately. http://www.facebook.com/futureidiotsmusic/posts/530598763620648

Not sure I believe a bunch of guys who think “homage” means “do mediocre punk-pop covers and say ‘it’s how it should have sounded’”

  17. lulz says:

why people dont like blinks new stuff? i think its pretty sweet!! (srs) reminds me of people i thought were complete douche in school but are pretty nice now! (you know, that awkward, self questioning feeling)

  18. I don't get it says:

“I don’t know if you guys are that familiar with gay sex, but that’s just not something you do :(”

hahahhhaa <3 Solid A+ line there. (no hate tho)

also, really sorry for these euro faggots. I'm really trying hard to become a better person but they bum me even more out than my brother who insulted me yesterday for listening to Flo Rida.

  19. TLDR says:

I havent heard the original blink 182 record being discussed, but these covers sound alright imo. Some catchy parts.

IDK what to think about the attitude they had, or the spirit of doing it, or whatever. IMO the fact that they are euros explains a lot of this simply from being euros, they do weird stuff for no apparent reason and I’m not sure there is any malicious intent involved.

I would almost for sure think this was pretentious if it was Americans doing it

  20. HandsomeDan says:

I checked out their bandcamp. I felt like it was 2001 all over again. The Euros have perfected time travel.
