As you probably know by know, I am old. It seems like yesterday that I was going to my first show, but time flies and somehow or another I’ve been involved in hardcore/punk/whatever for over 20 years now. As old people usually do, I like talking about being old with other old people. This is why I am a huge fan of a podcast called 100 WORDS OR LESS, which is basically host Ray Harkins sitting down and talking with his friends about being old hardcore dudes– people like Alex from DESPISED ICON, Andrew from WINDS OF PLAGUE, Chris from CHOKEHOLD, Matt from SHAI HULUD, etc.

Like me, Ray’s been part of hardcore scene for most of his life without being one of those sad “lifers.” In addition to his podcast, Ray sang for the band TAKEN, spent several years in A&R at our bros Century Media, and also co-founded SOUND & FURY FEST. He’s a smart guy who’s spent a lot of time thinking about this, so I sat down with him and talked about how to be a grown up without leaving hardcore behind. If you’re an old person like us or will be some day, don’t sleep on this one!

This guy rules, I love Taken and Chainreactioncore in general because they played in my home town of Salinas when I was a teenager and never would have had a chance to see them if they didn’t play my little shitty town.

I used to go to bionic records in HB *thats huntington beach for you non california orangexcounty folk. and talk to this dude a lot. turned out I lived right by his guitarist chad. I fucking miss CA. AZ has shit for hardcore… although it is a gewd meytal seen.
