If u ever thought to urself “DEFEATER is pretty cool but I wish there was a band that spent even more time fetishizing a rly idealized, cartoonishly oversimiplified version of the 50s that never akshually existed, especially if their music was even less energetic,” then u will be super stoked on the new band WAR GENERATION– imagine a whole band who devotes not just a few songs here and there to ‘imagine ur in teh 50s’ but their entire existence!!
My first thought was “Wow, this sounds like SENSE FIELD why would anyone want to sound like that terrible band.” In case you are not aware of SENSE FIELD, they were one of the first bands to play dull, lifeless, alternative christian rock in the hardcore scene and inspired lots of other bands who bored me to tears at shows in the 90s. And then I realized that the singer for WAR GENERATION *is* Jon Bunch, who was also the singer for SENSE FIELD. Which makes sense in the context of Rise’s recent wave of signing “boring bands from the 90s scene who were popular with ppl who went to hardcore shows but did not like hardcore and used the word ‘amazing’ too much” (HOT WATER MUSIC, BOY SETS FIRE, ETC).
LMS IF U WERE BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION!! COMMENT IF UR A MIDDLE-CLASS MALE AND U WISH FOR A SIMPLER TIME BEFORE CIVIL RIGHTS AND LEGAL ABORTION, WHEN U DIDNT HAVE TO USE THE SAME WATER FOUNTAIN AS URBAN PPL!
